The Lowdown
Anyone who has sat near a meltdown at 30,000 feet will recognize the pitch. Saturday Night Live’s Halloween episode ran a fake Delta commercial for a new cabin class built only for the passengers nobody wants to sit next to (Saturday Night Live (YouTube); The Guardian).
Key Takeaways
- The pre-taped sketch aired on the Oct. 31 episode hosted by Inde Navarrette, and NBC posted it on YouTube as “New Airline Class” (Saturday Night Live (YouTube); NBC Insider).
- Ashley Padilla plays the airline spokesperson introducing “Delta Disruptive, a new section of the plane exclusively for crazy people” (Saturday Night Live (YouTube); The Guardian; Aviacionline).
- Navarrette plays Sondra, a gum-chewing passenger from the Jersey Shore, one of a cabin full of problem flyers sealed off behind plexiglass (Vulture).
- The joke lands on a real issue: airlines and regulators have spent the past five years dealing with a rise in unruly passenger incidents (Aviacionline).

The Story
The ad sells the idea with a straight face. “Delta didn’t want to deal with the constant problems these passengers create, but we still wanted their money,” Padilla’s spokesperson explains (Saturday Night Live (YouTube)).
The rules in Delta Disruptive are short. “For instance, you can’t stab people with a pen,” she says. “But almost anything else is fine.” The section is walled off from the rest of the plane with what the ad calls “four-inch-thick acoustic plexiglass” (Saturday Night Live (YouTube)).
Behind the glass it’s chaos. The Guardian counted a guy yelling that the plane is “made out of Israel” and a woman insisting the other passengers aren’t real. In Vulture’s recap, Sarah Sherman’s passenger is duct-taped to her seat and Navarrette’s Sondra has lost her pants somewhere along the way (The Guardian; Vulture).
The crew and the fine print
“All Delta Disruptive flight attendants are the toughest, gayest ex-Spirit Airlines employees who have seen much worse,” the ad promises (Saturday Night Live (YouTube)).
It closes on the tagline: “So stop being met by law enforcement when you land and start flying Delta Disruptive, currently available on all domestic flights within Florida” (Saturday Night Live (YouTube)).
The Guardian called the sketch too short and said Padilla “steals” it as the exasperated host. Vulture gave the episode five stars (The Guardian; Vulture).
The Background
The premise isn’t far from real life. Aviacionline, which covered the sketch on Nov. 1, cited IATA data showing one unruly passenger incident for every 835 flights in 2021, then one per 568 flights in 2022, one per 307 in 2024 and one per 355 in 2025. The FAA has run a zero-tolerance policy since 2021, with fines of up to $43,658 (Aviacionline).
The same night opened with Tom Hanks bringing back David S. Pumpkins (our cold open story), and Navarrette used her monologue to take a swipe at Shane Gillis (read that story).
