The Lowdown
The Tokyo Dome has its main event. At a press conference on Nov. 4, NJPW president Hiroshi Tanahashi made Kenny Omega vs. Yota Tsuji for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship official for Wrestle Kingdom 21 on Jan. 4 (Fightful; PWInsider).
Key Takeaways
- Tsuji defends the IWGP Heavyweight title against Omega in the main event (Fightful).
- Jon Moxley vs. Shingo Takagi is now an Unbound Deathmatch (Fightful).
- IWGP Junior champion YOH faces SHO; if YOH loses he leaves NJPW, and if SHO loses he must reform Roppongi 3K with him (Fightful; PWInsider).
- Also set: Will Ospreay vs. Callum Newman, MJF vs. Ryohei Oiwa, and Gabe Kidd vs. Yuya Uemura for the IWGP Global title (Fightful; PWInsider).
- A three-way tag match will crown new IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag champions (Fightful).

The Card So Far
The announcement came the day after Power Struggle, as New Japan laid out the first big pieces of its biggest show of the year (Fightful). Here’s the advertised lineup, per Fightful and PWInsider (Fightful; PWInsider):
Tsuji defending the IWGP Heavyweight title against Omega tops the show. Gabe Kidd puts the Global Heavyweight belt up against Yuya Uemura, and YOH defends the Junior Heavyweight title against SHO. Will Ospreay faces Callum Newman, MJF meets Ryohei Oiwa, and Moxley and Takagi go at it with no rules. The vacant Junior Heavyweight Tag belts go to a three-way: Robbie X and Taiji Ishimori, Robbie Eagles and Kosei Fujita, and Místico with a partner still to be announced.
PWInsider lists the MJF match as his New Japan debut (PWInsider). The AEW side of that story is in our MJF vs. Oiwa post.
The Pit Take
In our view, this is the right main event. Omega is the biggest name New Japan can put across from its champion, and Tsuji gets the chance every young ace needs: beating a legend at the Dome. The danger is that the AEW stars swallow the card, with Omega, Ospreay, Moxley and MJF all booked. Whether Tsuji walks out as the face of the company is the real story. More in Wrestling.
The Background
Omega’s Tokyo Dome matches with Kazuchika Okada made him a global star, and he is a former IWGP Heavyweight champion. Ospreay’s recent AEW run is in our All Out 2026 story. Our image shows Omega at an AEW event in August 2026.
