Overview

Clarke Peters followed Lester Freamon with another major David Simon collaboration: Albert Lambreaux in Treme. His later screen roles moved among American and British productions, including Detective Oscar Clemons in Jessica Jones, the Master in His Dark Materials, Abbas in Foundation and Josiah Falls in The Man Who Fell to Earth. His agency’s credit record also identifies George in Eric and Mr. Treves in Towards Zero. The films reveal a similarly wide range. Peters played Ben Ross in Harriet and John Houston in I Wanna Dance with Somebody, both directed by Kasi Lemmons. He worked with Spike Lee on Red Hook Summer and Da 5 Bloods, playing Otis in the latter. That performance brought a Supporting Actor nomination at the 2021 BAFTAs, confirmed by the awards body’s own results; the category was won by Daniel Kaluuya. These credits make the later-career story more substantial than a single successful follow-up series. Peters has continued moving between ensemble television, historical and biographical films, and speculative worlds. The patient authority associated with Freamon is one recognizable part of that screen presence, rather than the limit of his work.
