Overview
Glynn Turman’s Clarence Royce arrived within a career already stretching back to the original Broadway A Raisin in the Sun. His work after The Wire brought new recognition rather than simply an extension of that earlier reputation. The Television Academy records his 2008 guest-actor Emmy win as Alex Sr. in In Treatment and his 2019 nomination as Nate Lahey Sr. in How to Get Away with Murder. Turman’s later television work includes Doctor Senator in Fargo, Queen Sugar, Women of the Movement, Black Cake and Chiron in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. On film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Rustin connect him to director George C. Wolfe, while other credits include The Way Back and Tyler Perry’s Straw. Those projects range across period drama, contemporary stories and fantasy, giving a fuller picture than his mayoral role alone. On July 10, 2025, Turman received a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in the Motion Pictures category. The official record confirms the completed ceremony, attended by guest speakers Ava DuVernay and Don Cheadle. It is a career-spanning honor, distinct from his competitive acting awards and nominations.
