Overview

Donald Trump is the 45th and 47th U.S. president, a real-estate businessman and a television personality. For entertainment audiences, his most recognizable screen role was as the host and producer of The Apprentice. His presidential library dates that run from 2004 through 2015, before he entered the White House. The show made a business competition into prime-time reality television. Contestants worked through assignments and faced elimination in a boardroom setting, with Trump occupying the role of decision-maker. The celebrity version applied the competition format to recognizable public figures and charitable fundraising. That television history is an important part of his place in popular culture, separate from his political record. Trump was born in Queens in 1946 and attended the New York Military Academy before studying at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton school. He followed his father into property development and became associated with hotels, casinos and buildings carrying the Trump name.
