Overview

Dana White is a combat-sports executive whose public identity is closely tied to the rise of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He became UFC president during the Fertitta family’s acquisition in 2001 and continued leading the promotion through subsequent changes in ownership. TKO’s September 2023 launch announcement gave him the title of UFC chief executive officer.

Before that executive career, White managed fighters, including Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz. The move into promotion put him on the business side of mixed martial arts: building events, attracting broadcasters and helping turn individual athletes into names viewers would recognize. His role is that of a promoter and company leader, rather than a competing UFC athlete.

Television has been an important part of that story. White helped develop The Ultimate Fighter, the reality competition that brought the training and personalities of prospective UFC fighters to a wider audience. Dana White’s Contender Series offers a different route into the promotion, with athletes fighting for the chance to earn UFC contracts. Both formats connect the business of recruiting talent with programming fans can watch.

In a January 2020 interview published by UFC, White discussed the company’s ESPN partnership, the opening of the UFC Apex and the expansion of its training infrastructure in Shanghai. He described international growth and the presentation of live events as central ambitions. The interview is a snapshot of that period, not a statement of the company’s current broadcasting arrangements.

White has also been a public supporter of Donald Trump, appearing at Republican conventions. That political visibility sits alongside his entertainment and sports work; it should not be confused with holding a government communications position.
