The Lowdown

Harry Styles picked the most New York costume possible for his final night at Madison Square Garden. At the second of his two Halloween shows on Oct. 31, the closer of his 30-night residency, he came out as Pizza Rat, the subway rodent that went viral in 2015 (The Hollywood Reporter).

Key Takeaways

  • Styles wore a furry brown rat suit with pink ears, a tail and sunglasses, and carried an oversized foam slice of pizza (Billboard).
  • “I thought I would use this momentous occasion in my career to dress like a rodent,” he told the crowd (The Hollywood Reporter).
  • Knicks captain Jalen Brunson walked out to present a banner marking the 30-show run, which MSG raised to the rafters (MSG Entertainment).
  • His fiancée, Zoë Kravitz, was in the audience (The Hollywood Reporter).

The Story

The suit did not last the whole show. Styles found it too hot to perform in and switched to rat ears, a tail and a T-shirt reading “I’m a rat” (The Hollywood Reporter). Before that, he played guitar with rat-claw nails still on (The Hollywood Reporter).

His band kept the theme going as New York icons. The Hollywood Reporter spotted the Statue of Liberty, Andy Warhol and Anna Wintour onstage, and Billboard added a hot dog and a taxi to the list (The Hollywood Reporter) (Billboard). The night before, Styles opened as 1970s Elvis Presley and later changed into the outfit from his 2010 X Factor audition (The Hollywood Reporter).

A banner from the Knicks

Brunson, the reigning NBA Finals MVP, said he wanted to return a favor, since Styles had come to the Knicks’ own banner night a few weeks earlier. He also needled the singer that this was his third Styles show while Styles had only made it to one game (The Hollywood Reporter). MSG said the residency drew over 500,000 people, coming from all 50 states and 79 countries, and it opened a memorabilia exhibit on the arena’s sixth-floor concourse (MSG Entertainment).

Fans dressed up too. Costumes in the crowd included Nikki from Curry Barker’s Obsession, Bob Ross, dancing lobsters and a plastic takeout bag reading “have a nice day,” an apparent nod to the “Aperture” music video (The Hollywood Reporter). His fiancée, Zoë Kravitz, watched from the arena (The Hollywood Reporter). Styles added a cover of Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer” and stuck around onstage for about 20 minutes after the finale, eating pizza with his band (The Hollywood Reporter).

The Background

The residency ran from Aug. 26 to Oct. 31, with shows every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and was Styles’ only set of U.S. dates in 2026 (MSG Entertainment). His Together, Together tour moves to Australia with shows in Melbourne starting Nov. 27 (The Hollywood Reporter).
