Is Marco Rubio Resigning? What the Report—and the Denial—Actually Say

An anonymously sourced report anticipates a possible departure. Officials dispute it, and no resignation has been announced.

Marco Rubio’s name is circulating alongside resignation speculation. The important word is speculation.

The Independent reports that sources anticipate the secretary of state leaving before a potential 2028 presidential run. But its own reporting includes competing assessments, including an administration insider who said Rubio had shown no signs of wanting to quit.

The administration pushed back. Assistant Secretary of State Dylan Johnson called the report “completely baseless fake news.”

Neither side establishes what Rubio will ultimately do. Anonymous predictions aren’t a resignation announcement, and an official denial doesn’t settle his future plans.

PCP’s take: “Could leave” and “has resigned” are different stories. Whatever your opinion of Rubio, the distinction shouldn’t disappear when a headline reaches your feed.
