Overview
Aidan Gillen moved from Tommy Carcetti’s Baltimore political ambitions to several very different forms of television power. His later roles include Littlefinger in Game of Thrones, Aberama Gold in Peaky Blinders and Frank Kinsella in Kin. Irish television remained an important part of that career alongside the international productions: the Irish Film and Television Academy records acting wins for Love/Hate in 2012 and Charlie in 2015, following his 2009 award for The Wire. The Academy’s record also shows how recognition continued without every nomination becoming a win. Gillen was nominated for Kin in the lead-actor drama category in 2022 and the supporting-actor drama category in 2024. His film credits include Calvary, Sing Street, the Maze Runner sequels and Bohemian Rhapsody, adding independent drama, music-centered stories and franchise films to his television work. As of the November 2026 research check, Amazon identifies Gillen among the new regular cast of Young Sherlock’s second season. Its announcement says the season is in production and has no announced release date. That is a concrete next project, but it belongs in the forthcoming-work column rather than among episodes viewers can already watch.
