Overview
Brian Sumption entered Love Is Blind Season 8 after spending years focused on his wine bar business. He became engaged to medical student Kylie Schuelke in the pods, but their relationship was not one of the five followed into the filmed Honduras retreat. Netflix’s March 2025 interview with the pair documented the engagement and their decision to continue dating on their own, outside the wedding timeline used for the main on-screen couples.
The official cast guide described Sumption starting a wine bar while he was still in his final year of college. That early business experience was a source of pride, but concentrating on work had left less room for a relationship. By the time he joined the experiment, he wanted to find a better balance. He also had experience bringing singles together through speed-dating events, giving the pods’ conversations a connection to something he had encountered professionally.
Sumption told Netflix that his dates with Schuelke quickly felt natural. The two connected over similar backgrounds, farming families and humor, then moved toward a proposal after discussing their priorities. He described feeling less pressure when they learned their relationship would not continue into the next filming stage. Rather than interpreting that decision as a reason to separate, they returned home and took a vacation to Mexico that they arranged themselves.
The couple’s later account focused on blending their lives through everyday activities and family time. Sumption and Schuelke described seeing relatives, making trips together and drawing support from friends in the Minneapolis cast. At the time of Netflix’s interview, they were not rushing to choose a wedding date. His franchise story is therefore an engagement that continued away from the cameras, alongside a business background that had shaped how he approached dating before the experiment.
