Overview

James Earl Jones (January 17, 1931 – September 9, 2024) was an American actor whose stage, film and voice career spanned more than six decades. He won a Tony Award for The Great White Hope and brought the same authority to screen roles. His voice made Darth Vader and Disney’s Mufasa globally recognizable. In Coming to America (1988) he played King Jaffe Joffer opposite Madge Sinclair’s Queen Aoleon — a casting pair Disney later echoed when both voiced Simba’s parents in The Lion King (1994). Jones died on September 9, 2024, at age 93.
