The Lowdown

Clockwork Carnage could have been a gimmick that buried the champion, and instead it made Ospreay look human and still on top. Adam Copeland coming within a second of the title is the story to watch for 2027.

Key Takeaways

  • Will Ospreay retained the AEW World title in the first Clockwork Carnage against seven challengers (Yahoo Sports).
  • Hangman Page, Bandido and Brody King won the Trios titles from Swerve Strickland and The New Level (Yahoo Sports).
  • Mercedes Moné retained the Women’s World title against Thekla (Yahoo Sports).
  • The Young Bucks retained the World Tag titles against Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight (Yahoo Sports).

The Story

AEW WrestleDream came from Orlando’s Addition Financial Arena on Saturday, October 17, and its main event debuted Clockwork Carnage, the match type Will Ospreay introduced (Yahoo Sports).

Ospreay entered first and outlasted Samoa Joe, Mike Bailey, Adam Copeland, Konosuke Takeshita, Kazuchika Okada, Ricochet and Darby Allin. Copeland nearly won with a Spear on Okada before a last-second Hidden Blade from Ospreay sealed it (Yahoo Sports).

The only title change: Hangman Page and Brodido beat Swerve Strickland and The New Level in a two-out-of-three-falls match for the Trios titles. Mercedes Moné kept the Women’s World title against Thekla, and the Young Bucks retained over Fletcher and Knight in what Yahoo’s Drake Riggs rated a 5/5 (Yahoo Sports).

Also: Jon Moxley kept the Continental title against Mark Davis, Andrade retained the National title against Tommaso Ciampa, Persephone retained the TBS title in a four-way, and Nick Wayne beat Jericho (Yahoo Sports).
