The Lowdown
Aggie Wiggs’ family is coming into focus. Netflix confirmed on Nov. 3 that Lili Taylor will play Aggie’s stepmother, Fiona, in The Beast in Me Season 2, joining John Goodman as her father, Jack. Claire Danes returns as Aggie (Netflix Tudum; What’s on Netflix).
Key Takeaways
- Taylor plays Fiona, Aggie’s stepmother; Goodman plays Jack, her father (Netflix Tudum).
- Danes returns as Aggie Wiggs and executive produces (Netflix Tudum; Deadline).
- Howard Gordon and Daniel Pearle are co-showrunners; Gordon also signed an exclusive creative deal with Netflix (Netflix Tudum; Deadline).
- Season 1 drew 43 million views in seven weeks, and Matthew Rhys won the Emmy for lead actor in a limited series (Netflix Tudum).
- What’s on Netflix reports filming runs Nov. 16, 2026 to March 30, 2027 in New Jersey and New York; no release date yet (What’s on Netflix).
Who’s Joining
Netflix renewed the show in September, after it was first billed as a limited series (Deadline). The new castings are the first look at where the story goes next. Goodman was announced the week before Taylor, and with both cast as Aggie’s parents, What’s on Netflix reads the new season as a family story (What’s on Netflix). Plot details are still under wraps.
“We always told ourselves we’d only do a second season of The Beast in Me if we found a story that was worthy of the first — and I’m thrilled to say we found it,” Gordon told Tudum (Netflix Tudum). Netflix scripted chief Jinny Howe said the show “captivated global audiences” (Netflix Tudum).
Executive producers also include creator Gabe Rotter, Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, Conan O’Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross and Jodie Foster. 20th Television is the studio (Netflix Tudum; What’s on Netflix).
The Pit Take
We think this is exactly the right move. Season 1 lived on the war between Aggie and Matthew Rhys’ Nile Jarvis, and the risk of a second season is a weaker copy of that. Pointing the story at Aggie’s own family, with two actors as good as Goodman and Taylor, sounds like a fresh fight rather than a rerun. Rhys’ Emmy night is in our Matthew Rhys Emmy story. The Background
In Season 1, Danes played Aggie, a grieving writer drawn into the orbit of her billionaire neighbor Nile Jarvis (Rhys). It debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s global Top 10, reached the top 10 in 88 countries and earned 21 Emmy nominations (Netflix Tudum). Our image is a Netflix still of Danes from Season 1.
