The Lowdown

Streamers keep mining TikTok for talent, and Tubi giving creators first TV shows is a smart, cheap bet. The dating-show twist alone sounds made for clips.

Key Takeaways

  • Tubi will invest in 12 creators to develop 10 original series based on their TikTok content (Variety).
  • The series will span animation, horror, reality and YA (Variety).
  • Creators in the first cohort include Marc Sebastian, Kendria Bland, Yasmine Sahid, Alex Maystrik, Pablo Hernandez and Lynnell Jones Jr. (Variety).

The Story

One series, Kai Picks The Guy, is a dating show hosted by Kai Cameron in which three men expect to date a female contestant but are vetted by Kai instead. Another, A Great Australian Gay Sidequest, follows Sebastian across Australia (Variety).

“The Incubator is where we come in as their partner, giving them the creative freedom to grow what they’ve started,” said Kudzi Chikumbu, VP of creator partnerships at Tubi (Variety).

TikTok global head of entertainment and micro-series Dawn Yang said the partnership gives creators “another way to share their work with new audiences” (Variety).
