The Lowdown
Turning up at a challenger’s family home is an old wrestling trope, but Waller sold it as genuinely creepy, and it gave Halloween Havoc a main event with real heat. The in-ring story of the night was the Dusty Classic: the reigning tag champions are out, and a banged-up Noam Dar is one win from the cup.
Key Takeaways
- The reigning NXT Tag Team Champions fell to Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno, and Hank & Tank got past El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno, setting the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic final (WWE).
- Jackson Drake kept the NXT North American Championship against EK Prosper after Kam Hendrix pushed Prosper off the top rope (WWE; Wrestling Inc.).
- Grayson Waller went to Tony D’Angelo’s home, and the two brawled in the parking lot to end the show (WWE; Fightful).
- Myles Borne vs. Tavion Heights became a Weapons Wild match, and Dion Lennox agreed to face Cruz Montana in an unsanctioned match (Wrestling Inc.; Fightful).
The Story
The October 27 NXT, the final stop before Halloween Havoc, came from the Performance Center in Orlando. Here is everything that happened (WWE; Fightful).
Romeo Moreno & Noam Dar def. The Vanity Project (Dusty Classic semifinal)
Dar wrestled hurt, carrying a head injury, but he dodged Myka Lockwood‘s attempt to get involved. Moreno countered Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes’ Hit It and Quit It, and the pair finished the reigning NXT Tag Team Champions with the High-Low (WWE).
Chantel Monroe def. Lizzy Rain
In her NXT singles debut, Monroe traded with Lizzy Rain and landed a run of neckbreakers. When Rain went for a quick rollup, Monroe rolled through, grabbed the ropes for leverage and got the pin, a win WWE itself called controversial (WWE).
Sean Legacy def. Saquon Shugars
Shugars’ losing run continued. He went for a high-risk splash, and Legacy turned it into the winning pin (WWE).
Weapons Wild set for Havoc
Myles Borne and Tavion Heights came face to face in the ring with security between them. Heights called Borne a backstabber; Borne said Heights had leaned on him to win anything. Danhausen spun his wheel, and it landed on a Weapons Wild match for Halloween Havoc (Wrestling Inc.; WWE).
Hank & Tank def. El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. & Galeno (Dusty Classic semifinal)
With Dr. Wagner Jr. watching his sons from the crowd, the AAA World Tag Team Champions kept pace with Hank Walker and Tank Ledger for most of the match. Once Galeno was cut off from his brother, Hank & Tank hit splashes from opposite corners to reach the final (WWE; Fightful).
Jackson Drake (c) def. EK Prosper (NXT North American Championship)
Prosper’s speed and athleticism had Jackson Drake scrambling for most of the 11-minute match, and he came close with a rollup and a roundhouse heel kick. The Vanity Project’s numbers decided it: Lockwood pulled the referee’s attention away, Kam Hendrix pushed Prosper off the top rope, and Drake landed a running knee to retain (WWE; Wrestling Inc.).
The rest of the night
- Zilla Fatu came out to talk about spinning the wheel for his Havoc match with Charlie Dempsey. Arianna Grace interrupted, and BirthRight ambushed him from behind with shovels (Wrestling Inc.; Fightful).
- NXT replayed a backstage scene from Monday’s Raw in which Iyo Sky confronted Kelani Jordan before Adam Pearce separated them. Kendal Grey wanted another piece of Jordan, but Wren Sinclair told her she would handle it at Havoc (Wrestling Inc.; Fightful).
- Cruz Montana called out Dion Lennox in a backstage video, and Rob Stone told Lennox that if he wanted Montana again, it would have to be an unsanctioned match. Lennox agreed (Wrestling Inc.; Fightful).
Waller at D’Angelo’s door
Grayson Waller spent the night taunting Tony D’Angelo from a distance. D’Angelo left the building on learning that Waller was at his house, then went to his restaurant, where he was told Waller wasn’t there and found a letter telling him to meet where it all began (Fightful; WWE). In the closing segment, Waller was talking in the ring when D’Angelo arrived back at the venue. Waller ran out to meet him, and the two fought outside the building, breaking free from officials again and again as the show ended (Wrestling Inc.).
What’s Next
Halloween Havoc followed on Saturday, October 31, with Waller defending against D’Angelo, Jordan defending against Sinclair, and Borne vs. Heights under Weapons Wild rules. Read our full Halloween Havoc results. Montana vs. Lennox, unsanctioned, and the Dusty Classic final between Hank & Tank and Moreno & Dar are set for the Wednesday, November 4 NXT.
The Background
Drake took the North American title from Myles Borne in August and had already turned back Tavion Heights before this defense (Wrestling Inc.). Montana and Lennox’s feud boiled over a week earlier, when their match ended in a double count-out and Montana was led away after attacking all of DarkState.
