The Lowdown
NXT spent this episode building Halloween Havoc, but the ending is what people will remember: Cruz Montana losing control after Dion Lennox dragged his family into it. Add Kelani Jordan taking a chair to Kendal Grey, and NXT now has two feuds that feel genuinely personal.
Key Takeaways
- Cruz Montana and Dion Lennox fought to a double count-out, and Montana then attacked all of DarkState (WWE; Slam Wrestling).
- Kelani Jordan hit Kendal Grey with a steel chair and left her bloodied as a message to Wren Sinclair (WWE; Slam Wrestling).
- Hank & Tank and the AAA tag champions, El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno, reached the Dusty Classic semifinals (WWE).
- Izzi Dame beat Layla Diggs, then turned down a title shot from Zaria (WWE).
The Story
Tony D’Angelo calls out Grayson Waller
Fresh off earning his Halloween Havoc title shot, Tony D’Angelo opened the show and brought out NXT Champion Grayson Waller. The two went back to their start together in the NXT 2.0 class, including their WarGames team. D’Angelo said Waller always looked down on him for coming from the streets, and wondered whether Waller would still be champion if Heatwave had been one-on-one (Slam Wrestling; Cageside Seats).
El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. & Galeno def. Lexis King & Charlie Dempsey (Dusty Classic quarterfinal)
The match was close to even until Zilla Fatu walked out with a cast on his injured hand. He fought off BirthRight’s backup, helped the AAA champions get the win, and then took out the whole group by himself (WWE; Slam Wrestling). Afterward, Rob Stone said he would have doctors decide whether Fatu was cleared to face Dempsey (Slam Wrestling).
Tavion Heights and Myles Borne brawl
Heights came out angry about his former partner’s attack, and Myles Borne jumped him from behind. The fight spilled all the way into the parking lot (WWE; Slam Wrestling).
Izzi Dame def. Layla Diggs
Izzi Dame went after the returning Layla Diggs’ previously injured shoulder and won with her running knee. Zaria, the Women’s North American Champion, came out afterward, upset at Dame digging into her past, and Dame refused the title opportunity Zaria offered, telling her she would see her at Halloween Havoc (WWE; Slam Wrestling).
Hank & Tank def. The Creed Brothers (Dusty Classic quarterfinal)
Two former NXT Tag Team Champion teams turned this into a slugfest. At the end, Brutus Creed slid in and accidentally pulled the referee’s attention, and Hank Walker and Tank Ledger caught Julius with Honk Honk to advance (WWE; Cageside Seats).
Kelani Jordan sends a message
Wren Sinclair came out with their Havoc contract and called out the champion. Kelani Jordan came out carrying a chair, said she had a gift for her challenger, and headed to the back. She returned dragging Sinclair’s friend Kendal Grey, bloodied from a beating with that chair. Sinclair went after Jordan, who retreated (WWE; Slam Wrestling; Cageside Seats).
Cruz Montana vs. Dion Lennox: double count-out
Lennox looked to be in control of the main event when he started taunting Montana about his mother and his daughter. Montana snapped, beat on Lennox at the announce table and speared him through the ringside barricade, and neither man answered the count (WWE; Slam Wrestling; Cageside Seats).
It got worse from there. Montana shoved past officials and security, jumped DarkState and slammed Lennox on the exposed floor. When he went to bring the steel steps down on Lennox, Cutler James threw himself on top of his teammate and took the hit. As the show closed, two officers rushed out and took Montana to the ground (WWE; Slam Wrestling; Cageside Seats).
What’s Next
The following week, Rob Stone made Montana vs. Lennox an unsanctioned match for the Wednesday, November 4 NXT, and Hank & Tank and the Wagner brothers both won their semifinals. Read our October 27 NXT results and Halloween Havoc results.
The Background
Montana arrived in NXT this year after his run in TNA as Mike Santana, the name under which he held the TNA World Championship. Waller won the NXT Championship in a fatal four-way at Heatwave, which is why D’Angelo kept bringing up the one-on-one question (Slam Wrestling).
